Why cashless festivals are on the rise

After a painfully long winter, which seemed never ending at times (Thanks Beast From The East), summer is finally here… hooray.
It’s time to take advantage of this warmer climate. After all, you shouldn’t be cooped up indoors all day working when temperatures start reaching the mid 20s. So whilst it is still warm, there are lots of different ways to take advantage of the summer and make it memorable...
The great thing about summer, besides the hotter climate, is that it gets dark much later. Once work is done, it’s time to go and get a pint with your colleagues or friends at the nearest beer garden. There will be many open throughout the summer months so it’s a good opportunity to let your hair down and (if it’s warm enough) get a nice tan. And this summer will be a great time to be at a beer garden because of the World Cup. So whether you’re drinking beer whilst watching the Germans (naturally) or having a strong caipirinha watching samba football from Brazil, you’ll find a drink to match the game.
It’s time to stop the excuses about doing exercise outdoors. Now the gym is great, but nothing beats going for a run on a beautiful evening. Find something you’re good at and get some fresh air: perhaps you could join a tennis club and spruce up your backhand. You won’t become the next Novak Djokovic, but you might become a bit trimmer. If you want to be really bold, why not try an outdoor yoga club? You can lose yourself doing a downward dog and enjoy the beautiful greenery of your surroundings - a perfect way to embrace the summer if you ask us.
No, this doesn’t involve sitting on a park bench and watching a film on your phone - this isn’t a good way to embrace the outdoors and will drain your battery very quickly. We are talking about open air cinemas, where you can bring a picnic basket, some drinks and relax with friends or a partner and watch a classic film. Picture it: the sun has set, the stars are out and you’re watching Bill Pullman do his famous speech from the 1996 summer blockbuster Independence Day - a great throwback to more simpler times. It’s worth looking into open air cinemas near you they are good fun and a great way to unwind from work.
Nothing goes together quite as well as live music and the outdoors. Picture Live Aid in the summer of 1985: would this have been as good if this was in an indoor arena? We have our doubts.
So what are your options this summer? There is a lot of choice with several high profile acts doing tours of the UK including Ed Sheeran, The Rolling Stones, and Queen. Or if you’re more of a festival person, there is plenty on offer. Find out more here. Nothing beats live music and it is a great way to escape the rigors of business, whilst you can enjoy watching your favourite artist.
We fully appreciate that just because it gets hot doesn’t mean that work all of a sudden stops. People have a living to make, and if you want to enjoy all that summer has to offer, you need to have money in the account to pay for it. But that doesn’t mean you can’t incorporate the warm climate with work. If you manage a team, then the summer is the time to be a bit generous, especially if it gets very hot. Install an air conditioning unit, because you never know when you might need it. Your staff will not appreciate working in a stuffy office if the weather reaches the upper 20s - or god forbid the early 30s.
Why not take some meetings outdoors? Bring your laptops and notepads and find a nice shady spot to sit. This is a great way to get your team out of their work station and will hopefully get them thinking a bit differently. Be really kind and get a round of ice creams mid-afternoon - you’ll be the most popular person in the office trust us.
Whilst ‘Blighty’ has plenty to offer during the summer months, there is nothing quite like taking a holiday abroad to unwind from the daily grind. Fortunately with cheap flights through budget airlines such as EasyJet and Ryanair, you’ll find a plethora of destinations for hot weather only a few hours away. Being abroad and away from the daily grind is a great way to really relax properly. Sunbathes galore and a long book are what we would recommend for a great summer holiday.
