The need for food banks across the UK has increased by 128% since 2015 and throughout the Covid-19 pandemic alone, from April 2020 to March 2021, the Trussell Trust’s UK wide network distributed 2.5 million emergency food parcels to people in crisis. This was a 33% increase in just one year. With this in mind, Payzone and Post Office partnered with the Trussell Trust to show our support by hosting donation collection points within our store and we have donated over 2,500 meals to date.
So, if you are a Payzone retailer and you would like to learn more about hosting a Trussell Trust donation collection point in your store, this blog will tell you everything you need to know. From setting up your collection point to offering goods at a discount, find what you can do to support your local Trussell Trust food back in your store.
Keen to get involved with our local community, Isobel Fixter, Senior Marketing Manager, visited her local Trussell Trust in Ellesmere Port. Isobel wanted to learn more about the fantastic work the Trussell Trust is doing and lend a hand while she was there. Isobel learnt about the challenges facing families who have to choose between heating and eating as she spoke to Lindsey who runs the food bank.
She found the food bank to be extremely organised and the volunteers to be both friendly and helpful towards those in need. Learn more about Isobel’s experience at her local Trussell Trust depot here:
Eager to learn more about the hard work the Trussell Trust does within the local community and how they are helping people in crisis, Isaac, our Business Development Manager, visited his local depot. He spent the day volunteering at Sparkhill food bank and learnt all about the process from when food is donated to when it is packaged up and delivered to someone who needs it.
Since spending time at Sparkhill food bank, Isaac was really moved by his experience. He has since signed up to dedicate 1 day a month to help out at his local Trussell Trust. Learn all about Isaac’s experience here:
Our dedicated charity is Sands who are on a mission to break the silence around stillbirth and neonatal death so that nobody has to grieve alone. They support grieving families over the phone through a helpline and also via an app so there is always someone available to listen to those in need.
We chose Sands as our dedicated charity because they have helped to support several employees at Payzone through their own experiences. It is down to our employees to decide which charities they would like to support so Sands felt like a fitting, and well-deserving, choice. Learn more about the great work that Sands do and the fundraising efforts we have organised to raise money for this fantastic charity.
We participated in a nationwide charity fundraiser across the Payzone and Post Office network. The 2020 #Cycle4Change initiative involved members of the Payzone team, retailer store owners, symbol group owners and more cycling all over the UK to raise money for Mines Advisory Group (MAG), Trussell Trust and Sands. With cycle teams from Glasgow to Hampshire, there were plenty of opportunities for people to get involved along the way.
Take a look at the six challenging cycle routes that the teams undertook as well as all of the stops they made along the way as part of this great fundraising initiative.
